The Los Angeles Angels are negotiating a contract extension with outfielder Mike Trout that Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan reports could be worth around $150 million over six years.

The deal would be a record for a player with just over two years of MLB service, but Trout has been exceptional in his career so far, coming in second for the AL MVP award in each of the last two seasons, in addition to winning the Rookie of the Year award in 2012.

The two sides are focusing on a six-year deal, which would keep Trout with the Angels until he is 28 years old, and pay him an average of $25 million a season. The center fielder earned $510,000 last season, and would earn about $1 million this season if a deal is not reached.

Trout has declined to discuss the negotiations with the press at spring training, saying he would prefer to focus on preparing for the 2014 season.
