The NFL announced that the salary cap will increase to $133 million next season, as first reported by Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports.

The increase to $133 million means a $10 million hike from last season's salary cap level. It's also significantly higher than the $126.3 million that was floated as a projection among NFL owners during the season, according to Pro Football Talk. And it is the highest salary cap in league history, surpassing the near-$128 million level from 2009.

According to USA Today, the salary cap level comes as especially welcome news to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys. They are the only two teams — the Cowboys at $150.9 million and the Steelers at $138.7 million — currently over the projected salary cap.
