Redskins use franchise tag on Brian Orakpo

The Washington Redskins have placed their franchise tag on linebacker Brian Orakpo, the team announced Monday.

The Redskins planned to tag Orakpo if the two parties were unable to reach a long-term deal, ESPN reported earlier. The franchise tag locks in the Pro Bowler to a one-year deal worth $11.5 million.

The 28-year old Orakpo had 43 tackles and a team-leading 10 sacks in 2013, in addition to an interception that he returned for a touchdown.
