Clemson suspends four players for season opener at Georgia

Clemson University football head coach Dabo Swinney announced Tuesday the suspension of four players for violating a team rule, according to a report from ABC News Columbia.

Offensive guard David Beasley, offensive tackle Shaq Anthony, defensive back Garry Peters and defensive end Corey Crawford will each miss the season opener at Georgia in August. Crawford and Beasley are expected to start again for the Tigers while Peters and Anthony will compete for a starting gig this season.

It's not immediately known what rule the players violated, but according to The Post and Courier none of the players have been arrested. Swinney said he's "disappointed" but "hopeful" the suspended players will learn from being sidelined:

“I am disappointed to announce that these young men will miss the 2014 opener at Georgia...A huge part of our program is teaching accountability, responsibility and that there are consequences for your actions. These are four good young men, but they broke a team rule and as a result, they will each miss a game. I am hopeful that they will learn and grow from this and have a great 2014 season on and off the field.”

The Tigers finished No. 8 last season in the AP Top 25 poll with an 11-2 record.
