The Cleveland Cavaliers hope they can lure LeBron James back to them by acquiring an elite player like Kevin Love or LaMarcus Aldridge to pair with point guard Kyrie Irving, according to Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal.

The Cavs have worked to repair their relationship with James since their acrimonious break almost four years ago when the MVP decided to join Miami. James accepted an invitation to attend Zydrunas Ilgauskas' jersey retirement ceremony on Saturday.

Lloyd reports that members of the Cavs front office believe the night was a big step toward James' possible return, but that the team needs to add another superstar to increase its allure.

GOLLIVER: Reports: Phil Jackson 'leaning' toward accepting Knicks' front-office job offer

[T]he Cavs privately believe it’s not too late. They still have the assets to pull off a mammoth trade this summer at the draft, the type Grant tried so hard to make. Kevin Love will be entering the final year of his contract, as will LaMarcus Aldridge

If either the Minnesota Timberwolves or Portland Trail Blazers come to the conclusion they can’t re-sign their stars, this summer is the time to move them and the Cavs will be at the front of the line, stocked with young players and future draft picks.

James contract with the Heat goes through 2016, but he has the option to opt-out of the deal both this summer and during the summer of 2015.
