Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins says he doesn't understand why he has been benched by manager Ryne Sandberg.

Rollins said that Sandberg hasn't told him why he has been riding the pine for the past few games. He did not play in Tuesday and Wednesday's spring training games and is not expected to play in Thursday's game against the New York Yankees.

"Obviously he's upset about something," Rollins said, via the Philadelphia Daily News. "That doesn't mean it's over the course of spring training, it could have been one specific incident. But he's upset about it. That's something when he's ready, he'll let me know."

The 35-year-old Rollins has played each of his 14 major league seasons in Philadelphia, helping the team win a World Series in 2008. He is also a three-time All-Star and won the National League Most Valuable Player award in 2007.

"No matter how much you want the orange to taste like an apple, it's an orange. No matter what. No matter how much you want these games to count for something, when April comes around, people aren't talking about this," Rollins said.
