Hoosiers WR in critical condition following swimming incident

A redshirt freshman wide receiver at Indiana University is in critical condition after a swimming accident on Monday, according to a report Tuesday from Zach Osterman of USA Today Sports.

Isaac Griffith had gone swimming with friends -- fellow Hoosier players Ty Smith and Nick Stoner, plus a fourth individual, Mitch McCune -- off Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota on Monday. According to the report citing the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, alcohol had been consumed. USA Today chronicled what occurred next:

During their swim, a strong current began to pull all four away from the shore. According to the report, Griffith "was taken approximately 15 yards past the swim buoy, where he started to go into distress."

McCune pulled Griffith back to shore, according to the report, and administered CPR while 911 was called. The report states that Griffith was unconscious but had a pulse, and that his breathing was "short and sporadic."

Griffith was transported to an area hospital and the CAT scan results "came back normal, which is promising," according to the Sheriff's office cited in the report.
