Cincinnati Reds reliever Aroldis Chapman was carried off the field on a stretcher Wednesday night after being hit in the face with a ball off the bat of Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez during a Cactus League game.

The team announced that Chapman suffered fractures above his left eye and nose.

With two outs and the bases loaded in the sixth inning, Perez crushed an 0-2 99-mph fastball from Chapman up the middle and appeared to hit Chapman in the face.

Medical personnel from both teams ran out immediately to the mound after Chapman went down and soon after officials cancelled the game. Chapman's father was in the stands and also rushed onto the field.
