Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias expected to miss 4-6 months with stress fractures in legs

Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias is expected to miss the next four to six months with stress fractures in both legs, the team announced Thursday.

The team said tests on Iglesias showed bilateral tibial stress fractures and that he will be evaluated in four months. Iglesias' activity will be limited to non-weight bearing conditioning such as biking, swimming and upper body strengthening.

Iglesias has said he wants to play this season.

"I just felt it from the very first moment of [last] Spring Training," Iglesias said earlier this week, via MLB.com. "I just told myself to play through it, because I never expected something like that. I just feel pain, but Stephen Drew had a concussion at the time and that was an opportunity for me to start with the team. And I was like, 'You know what? You've got to play through it.' And I did it."

 24, hit .303 with three home runs, 29 RBI, 16 doubles, five stolen bases with the Boston Red Sox and Tigers last season, and finished second in the AL Rookie of the Year voting.
