Marquette head basketball coach Buzz Williams will become the next coach at Virginia Tech, reports Yahoo! Sports' Pat Forde.

According to ESPN.com's Jeff Goodman, Williams will sign a seven-year deal.

Williams would replace James Johnson, who was fired after two seasons with the school. The Hokies finished 9-22 this season, losing to Miami in the first round of the ACC tournament. Virginia Tech has not been to the NCAA tournament since 2007.

Williams, 41, has been at Marquette for six seasons, making five NCAA tournament appearances, three Sweet Sixteens and compiling an overall record of 139-69. The Golden Eagles had made the NCAA tournament for eight consecutive years before finishing 17-15 this season.

Before becoming the head coach at Marquette, Williams spent one season at New Orleans.
