Miami Heat owner Micky Arison was interested in buying the Miami Marlins, but was rebuffed by owner Jeffery Loria, reports the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson.

Arison made overtures about buying the club last season, but was never able to make a formal offer after he was informed that the 73 year-old Loria had zero interest in selling the team.

Loria has become unpopular with local fans after he dramatically cut the team's payroll after their first season in the new Marlins Park, which cost the local government $400 million to build, according to the Herald.
