For the first time in 15 years, the New York Yankees will not have Major League Baseball's highest payroll.

This season, that honor belongs to the Los Angeles Dodgers, who will have a projected payroll of $235 million, according to study of all major league contracts by The Associated Press.

The last time the Yankees were not the sport's top spending team was 1998.

This season, they will have a projected payroll of $204 million. The Philadelphia Phillies are next on the list at $180 million, followed by the defending World Series champion Boston Red Sox at $163 million and the Detroit Tigers at $162 million, rounding out the top five.

The Houston Astros, who had MLB's worst record last season, is once again baseball's most frugal team with a $45 million payroll. Last year, the Astros had a $27 million payroll.

Suspended New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will only earn $3,868,852 of his $25 million salary this season. The union is trying to eliminate a loophole that allows Rodriguez to collect his money.

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke will be the majors highest-paid player this season, earning $24 million in second season of his $147 million, six-year deal.
