New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider is out indefinitely after having surgery on his injured left hand, the team announced Friday.

Krieder was originally supposed to miss up to five games, including all of the Rangers' four-game Western Conference trip, which starts Friday night in Calgary. The team is riding a hot streak of late, having won five games in a row and seven of its last 10 contests.

Kreider, 22, was injured last Friday night in New York's win against the Columbus Blue Jackets but still played in the team's next two contests.
