Seattle Sounders striker Clint Dempsey is the the highest-paid player in Major League Soccer, making $6.695 million in guaranteed compensation this season, according to figures released by the MLS Players Union.

Dempsey's salary alone is more than 15 of the 19 Major League Soccer teams.

Twelve players make at least $1 million, and half of those play for Los Angeles Galaxy or Toronto FC.

Next on the list are Toronto midfielder Michael Bradley, who makes $6.5 million and teammate Jermain Defoe who earns $6.18 million. Other notables include Landon Donovan of the Galaxy is guaranteed $4.583 million, ahead of teammate Robbie Keane's $4.5 million. 

Toronto has the highest team guaranteed compensation at $16.65 million, more than $3.5 million more than Los Angeles. Chivas USA has the smallest team salary at $3.29 million.

Sporting Kansas City, who are the MLS Defending champions, are paying their players $3.73 million this season, 13th on the list.
