Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira played in an extended spring training game for the second straight day on Friday and remains on track to rejoin the team on Sunday, the first day he's eligible to come off the disabled list.

Teixeira, who turned 34 last Friday, went 1-for-5 with a strikeout and played five innings of defense on Friday and said afterward that he "couldn't be happier" with how he feels, according to Newsday's Erik Boland.

Conveniently, the Yankees' complex is in Tampa, just across the bay from St. Petersburg, where the team will be playing the last of a four-game set against the Rays on Sunday.

"He had a really good day," manager Joe Girardi told MLB.com Thursday night after the Yankees' 10-2 win. "He played three innings today, got three at-bats, went first to third and felt really good."

Teixeira strained his right hamstring in Toronto on April 4 reaching for a ground ball. The two-time All-Star was 3-for-12 with two RBIs in his first four games this season. He's played only 19 games the last two years due to injuries.
