Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook has been suspended three games for charging and interference after his hit on St.Louis Blues forward David Backes during game two of the team's opening round playoff series, the league announced on Sunday.

Seabrook was given a major penalty and a game misconduct by the referees during the game, which the Blues won 4-3 in overtime.

The hit occurred late in the third period, when Chicago still led 3-2, after Backes over-skated the puck and was checked high into the boards, and had trouble maintaining his balance when he returned to his feet.

The Blues currently lead the series 2-0.
