St. Louis Blues center David Backes will not play in Game 3 of the Western Conference first round playoff series against the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday because of an injury sustained in Game 2, coach Ken Hitchcock said.
The Blues lead the best-of-seven series two games to none after Saturday's 4-3 overtime victory.
Backes was injured on a hit by Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook with 4:51 remaining in the third period of Game 2, which earned Seabrook a major penalty, a game misconduct for charging and a three-game suspension from the NHL.
Backes did make the trip to Chicago, but did not take part in the morning skate.
