Selection committee procedures for College Football Playoff released

The College Football Playoff released information about how the selection committee will determine which four teams will have a chance to play for the national championship.

The first rankings of the Top 25 teams will be released October 28 and will continue every week until the final rankings are revealed sometime during the weekend of December 7 after the conference championships have been played.

According to the a formal release, committee members will be recused from voting for a school’s team "if they or an immediate family member receives compensation from the school or has a professional relationship with that school."

They will not be allowed to participate in voting or be present during seeding. The committee will also factor in win-loss records, strength of schedule, conference championships won, head-to-head results and results against common opponents.

“The College Football Playoff marks a new era in which a group of college football experts will decide the best four teams which will compete for the national championship,” said Bill Hancock, executive director of the College Football Playoff.  “The members of the Selection Committee are an outstanding group of people with high integrity and excellent judgment, and ultimately the decision will be theirs."

The semifinals will take place January 1, 2015, at the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl and the national championship game will be January 12, 2015, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
