NBA commissioner Adam Silver was unaware that players were planning to boycott Tuesday night's games when he issued Donald Sterling's lifetime ban, Sports Business Journal's Liz Mullen reported Thursday.

Shortly after Silver deployed the "nuclear" option on Sterling, banning him for life, fining him $2.5 million and urging the Board of Governors to force Sterling to sell the Los Angeles Clippers, the Golden State Warriors revealed that they had been prepared to boycott that night's game.  NBAPA Vice President Roger Mason Jr. said Tuesday that the players' union had been in contact with each of the six teams scheduled to play Tuesday, and that he believed every team would have participated in the boycott.

ROUNDTABLE: Who should be the next owner of the Clippers?

Silver needs the owners to pass a 3/4 vote in order to force Sterling to sell the team.
