The Cleveland Indians have placed second baseman Jason Kipnis on the 15-day disabled list with a strained oblique, the team announced.

The move is retroactive to April 30. The team recalled infielder Jose Ramirez from Triple A Columbus to take Kipnis' roster spot.

Kipnis was injured in the fourth inning of the team's 6-4 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday after swinging, which resulted in a double play groundout.

Kipnis is hitting .234 with three homers, 12 RBI, 12 runs scored and four steals for the Indians this season. The team signed Kipnis to a six-year, $52.5 million contract extension last month.

"I feel all right," Kipnis said, via MLB.com. "You're always going to feel a little bit sore in the morning after something like this happens, but I feel all right. I'm getting a lot of treatment right now. I think that's going to help it a lot.
