The Detroit Tigers are attempting to bolster their bullpen by signing right-handed reliever Joel Hanrahan, as first reported by Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. Details of the contract have yet to be reported.

The Tigers were among almost 20 teams who watched Hanrahan throw during a showcase in April.

The former Pittsburgh Pirates closer (2011 and 2012) hasn't pitched in a game since suffering an elbow injury with the Red Sox that led to Tommy John surgery in May of last year.

The Tigers were among five teams reported to have "strong interest" in Hanrahan, who is expected to be least another month away from being available to pitch.

The Tigers' bullpen has struggled to a 5.37 ERA (29th in MLB) in the season's first month.
