Steve Kerr has reportedly been atop the Knicks' list of coaching candidates since Phil Jackson became the team's president. He's also been linked to the Warriors if they part ways with Mark Jackson. The Lakers, however, reportedly are not interested in adding Kerr to their list of candidates following Mike D'Antoni's resignation Wednesday night.

Marc Berman of the New York Post cites an NBA source as saying the Lakers believe Kerr is too far along in talks with Phil Jackson and the Knicks to warrant time and resources in their search.

The Lakers' list of coaching candidates reportedly includes a host of experienced candidates: They plan to interview including George Karl, Kurt Rambis, Byron Scott, Jeff Van Gundy, and college coaches Kevin Ollie and John Calipari. Calipari already has taken his name from consideration. Yahoo Sports reports Kobe Bryant would want the Lakers to speak with Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau.

From the New York Post:

“It’s a ball of confusion there,’’ another NBA source said. “I’ve heard 15 names.”

GOLLIVER: Donald Sterling reportedly has cancer

Lute Olson, Kerr's former college coach and confidant, told The Post the notion that Kerr prefers a West Coast team because he lives in San Diego is false. Kerr's children are in college and his wife, Margot, approves of her husband moving to the East Coast without her.
