Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right oblique strain, the team announced Saturday morning.

The move is retroactive to last Saturday, the last time Braun played a game. The team waited a week to see whether treatment would help him return.

The 30-year-old Braun is eligible to come off the DL on May 12, which is an off day for Milwaukee. Logan Schafer (strained hamstring) was activated from the DL to take Braun's spot on the 25-man roster.

Braun, a five-time All-Star and the 2011 NL MVP, is hitting .318 with six homers and 18 RBIs in 22 games. He had never been on the disabled list until last season, when he missed three weeks with a right thumb injury. He was also suspended for the last 65 games due to his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal.

The Brewers (21-9) have the best record in baseball. They continue a four-game set in Cincinnati on Saturday night.
