Phillip Nelson, the former Minnesota Gophers quarterback who recently transferred to Rutgers University, is facing felony charges after an altercation in his hometown of Mankato, Minnesota that left another man in critical condition, according to the Associated Press.

Isaac Dallas Kolstad was taken to a local hospital after allegedly being kicked into the head twice by Nelson, according to a police scanner recording acquired by Deadspin.com. Police are currently looking for a second suspect who was also involved in the fight.

Nelson threw for nine touchdowns and six interceptions in eleven games for the Golden Gophers last season, and hoped to join Rutgers' more pass-oriented system after sitting out the upcoming season. He would have two remaining years of eligibility beginning in 2015.
