New York Yankees starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia has been placed on the 15-day disabled list after an MRI showed inflammation and fluid buildup in the pitcher's right knee.

The team announced the move on Sunday morning, the day after Sabathia left the mound complaining of pain in the knee while giving up three home runs in five and one-third innings of action against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Sabathia has struggled so far this season, allowing ten home runs in eight starts with a 5.28 ERA and a WHIP of 1.478. Drew Siva of NBC Sports reports the the Yankees hope their ace will be ready to return to the team as soon as the 15-day rest is up.
