Mets starting pitcher Dillon Gee has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right lat muscle, the team announced Wednesday. The Mets have set the right-hander's DL status retroactive to May 11.

With Matt Harvey sidelined, Gee is widely considered to be the team's ace following last season's 13-8 record and 3.08 ERA. He posted a 3-1 record and 2.73 ERA in his first eight starts of 2014.

The Mets will start right-hander Jacob deGrom, a recent call-up, in place of Gee in Thursday's Subway Series finale against the Yankees.
