Details emerge in Greg Hardy case as Panthers DE released from jail on Wednesday

Details emerged on Wednesday in an ongoing legal case involving Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy, who faces charges of misdemeanor assault and communicating a threat after allegedly attacking his girlfriend early Tuesday morning.

According to a report  Wednesday from the Charlotte Observer, Hardy was released from Mecklenburg County Jail after paying a $15,000 bond for the misdemeanor and $2,000 for the threats. The judge in the case said Hardy is a threat to his girlfriend and mandated that he cannot contact her. He is also required to attend three Alcoholics Anonymous meetings every week.

According to the report, the 25-year-old Hardy allegedly threw his girlfriend, Nicole Holder, into a bathtub, slammed her against a Futon and began to strangle her in the midst of an argument at his home in uptown Charlotte. Holder, a waitress in the Charlotte area, had been dating Hardy since last September, according to the report.

Hardly also allegedly threatened to kill the accuser, according to the report:

Hardy also said he would kill her, the warrant said, a threat “made in a manner and under circumstances which would cause a reasonable person to believe that the threat was likely to be carried out.”

Holder filed for a restraining order against Hardy on Wednesday, according to public records. In her complaint, she accuses Hardy of throwing her on a couch covered “in assault weapons and/or shotguns.”

She said he bragged that all of the assault weapons were loaded. As part of the assault, she said Hardy “threatened to shoot me if I went to the media or reported his assaults to anyone.”

Hardy's weapons cache allegedly included 25-30 firearms. Holder was hurt during the incident and was forced to go to the emergency room due to injuries sustained all over her body.

The argument started in the early morning hours following an after-party at Hardy's high-rise. According to the report, Hardy and Holder were intoxicated at the time. Hardy's attorney claims she attacked him and a friend and that he proceeded to call 911 when she wouldn't leave his home.

Hardy's next court date is scheduled for June 27.

The pass rusher is set to earn $13.1 million next season with the Panthers if he doesn't sign a long-term deal by July 15. The team said in February they were working on an extension, but there is no indication how close the two sides are now, particularly in light of the allegations. The Panthers detailed their disappointment in a statement Tuesday:

We are very disappointed to learn of the allegations involving Greg and are concerned for all parties as we continue to investigate,” the  statement said.

Last season, Hardy recorded 59 total tackles, with 15 sacks and one forced fumble. TheAssociated Press named him second-team All-Pro.
