The Brooklyn Nets could put point guard Deron Williams on the trade block this offseason after their season ended in the Eastern Conference semifinals, Bleacher Report's Howard Beck reported Thursday.

With Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett aging, the Nets could choose to retool around guard Joe Johnson and center Brook Lopez while trading Williams for spare pieces, according to the report.

From the report:

There is an alternative, sources say, the Nets will not rule out: They could look to trade Williams this summer, retool around Johnson and Lopez, squeeze one more run out of Pierce and Garnett and hope for the best.

It's hard to say what the Nets might get for a 29-year-old former All-Star with bad ankles and $63 million left on his contract, but it's worth exploring. The Houston Rockets tried to acquire Williams last December, so it's not inconceivable that another team desperate for point-guard help might inquire.

The 29-year-old Williams averaged 14.3 points and 6.1 assists per game this season, both down from his career averages. His 45 percent field-goal percentage, however, was about in line with his career mark. But he did disappear at times in the playoffs, shooting under 40 percent.

After their 4-1 series loss at the hands of the Miami Heat, the Nets' roster could stand to undergo some significant changes. The 37-year-old Garnett will reportedly think about retirement this offseason, and Pierce is a free agent.
