Report: Trail Blazers nearing multi-year extension with head coach Terry Stotts

Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts, who led Portland to the Western Conference semifinals for the first time since 2000, is close to a multi-year extension with the team, Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Thursday, citing league sources.

The Blazers have an option on the third and final year of Stotts' contract, but that will likely be replaced upon his signing of the new deal, according to Wojnarowski.

Writes Wojnarowski: "Blazers general manager Neil Olshey and Stotts' agent Warren LeGarie have been working on the deal, and it's expected to be finalized in the near future, league sources said."

Stotts was hired after the Trail Blazers went 28-38 in the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season. Portland was 33-49 in his first season but finished 54-28 this season, which was the 56-year-old's first winning season in six as an NBA head coach. The Blazers beat the Rockets 4-3 in their first-round playoff series.

Stotts was 42-85 in two seasons with the Hawks (2002-04) and 63-83 in two seasons with the Bucks (2005-07), and he won an NBA title as Rick Carlisle's assistant with the Mavericks in 2011.
