Report: Knicks want to talk to Thunder's Derek Fisher about coaching vacancy

The New York Knicks are in no hurry to name a new head coach, so they will wait until after the Oklahoma City Thunder's season is over to talk to veteran point guard Derek Fisher, according to Marc Stein and Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.com.

The Thunder play the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals starting Monday night.

Last week, Steve Kerr, who was New York's top coaching candidate, signed a five-year, $25 million deal to coach the Golden State Warriors.

Among the candidates reportedly on the Knicks' radar include veteran NBA coach Mike Dunleavy, Denver Nuggets head coach Brian Shaw, and Mark Jackson, who just rejoined ESPN as a broadcaster after being fired by Golden State.

Fisher said he has other things on his mind than coaching and will wait until after the season to weigh his options.

"I would tell people to allow me to finish my career as a player before they give me another job after that. It's humbling, just to think about people thinking of me in that manner, especially while I'm still playing," Fisher said. [But] I promise you this is the last thing on my mind at this point. I really haven't thought about it that much. Hopefully there's a lot of basketball left to be played this season for sure. Once that's done we'll go from there."

Under recently-fired Mike Woodson, the Knicks finished this past season 37-45 despite having the league's second-highest payroll.
