The San Diego Padres announced an MRI revealed only "soreness and irritation" in right-hander Andrew Cashner's elbow.

Last week, Cashner told manager Bud Black that he was experiencing discomfort in his elbow and right forearm. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday and had the MRI Monday following the Padres road trip in Colorado.

“After performing an MRI today on Andrew’s right elbow, our doctors have indicated to me that he has elbow soreness and irritation,” said Padres general manager Josh Byrnes.“Based on our doctors’ recommendation, we will be proceeding with rest and rehabilitation for his recovery.”

Cashner's medical prediction on Saturday turned out to be correct when he told reporters that he didn't think it was anything more than soreness.

"I think it just has some inflammation in it," he said. "Hopefully it's not more than 15 days. I think there was some extra soreness this time, but I'm not worried at all about my ligament. I have been cutting my fastball loose with no pain.

Cashner has thrown 57 1/3 innings in nine starts and is 2-5 with a 2.35 ERA.
