Philadelphia Phillies starter Cliff Lee has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a mild sprain in his throwing elbow, the team announced Tuesday night.

The pitcher underwent an MRI on Tuesday after experiencing soreness in his left elbow, according to TheAssociated Press.

Lee threw 6 2/3 innings in the team's 8-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, giving up two earned runs on nine hits, but stayed behind when the team traveled to Miami to have the elbow examined. General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said that Lee dealt with pain for several weeks, and that the injury was "pretty mild," according to Ryan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News.

Lee is 4-4 in his fourth year with the Phillies, and is under contract with the team through the 2016 season, when he will be 37 years old.
