The Atlanta Falcons announced Wednesday the signing of their top pick, offensive tackle Jake Matthews, and second rounder defensive end Ra'Shede Hageman to rookie contracts.
Exact terms of the deals were not immediately known. The deal for Hageman includes a $2.2 million signing bonus, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution. The four-year deal for Matthews comes with a fifth-year club option for 2018, according to Rotoworld.
The son of Bruce Matthews, a 14-time Pro Bowler, the 22-year Matthews was selected sixth overall by the Falcons in this year's draft. He had a career at Texas A&M in which he played 52 games, including 46 straight starts at both right and left tackle. He was a consensus All-American and was named an All-Southeastern Conference first-team selection while serving as captain last year.
Hageman, selected No. 37 in this year's draft, played in 46 games at Minnesota, including the final 26 as a starter. He finished his college career with 91 tackles -- 57 solo -- with 10 sacks for minus 76 yards, 24 tackles for a loss of 114 yards, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and two blocked kicks. He was a consensus All-Big Ten first-team choice.
