Orioles' Manny Machado leaves with groin injury
Baltimore Orioles star Manny Machado left Thursday night's game against the Cleveland Indians with right groin stiffness, MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli reported.
Machado, the Orioles' third baseman, struck out in his final at-bat in the 11th inning of the Orioles' eventual 3-2 loss to the Indians in 13 innings. He did not return to play the field in the top of the 12th.
Machado missed all of April while rehabbing and recovering from offseason knee surgery. He experienced a setback earlier this spring after originally targeting Opening Day for his return.
The 21-year-old Machado has struggled mightily through his first 20 games this season, batting just .229 with one homer, three RBI and a .547 OPS.
Machado was an All-Star and a Gold Glove Award winner with the Orioles last year, his first full season in the majors. He hit .283 with 14 home runs and 71 RBIs in 156 games last season.
