An arrest warrant has been issued for Denver Broncos safety T.J. Ward on a misdemeanor assault charge, The Denver Post reported on Thursday.

CBS4 in Denver reported that the warrant stems from an incident that occurred on May 9, which included a reported scuffle at a Denver-area nightclub.

"We have been aware of this issue and will continue to review all of the facts," the Broncos said in a statement, according to the Post.

The 27-year-old Ward made his first Pro Bowl with the Cleveland Browns last season. The Broncos subsequently signed Ward to a four-year, $22.5 million contract on the first day of free agency, part of an aggressive plan in free agency to upgrade the team's defense. The Broncos also added cornerback Aqib Talib and pass rusher DeMarcus Ware this offseason.
