Memphis Grizzlies head coach Dave Joerger has declined a contract offer from the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to David Aldridge of TNT.

Joerger met with the Timberwolves recently and it was reported the team had focused their efforts on freeing the coach from the final two years of his contract with Memphis so he would be able to fill the vacancy left by Rick Adelman's retirement.

The first-year coach reached the decision to remain with the Grizzlies after team owner Robert Pera spoke with him and assured him his position with the team was secure despite recent turnover in the front office.

The Timberwolves and Grizzlies engaged in discussions over compensation to send Joerger back to his home state of Minnesota, but could not find much common ground in the negotiations.
