Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis sprains ankle celebrating Beckett no-hitter; headed to DL

Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis was placed on the 15-day DL on Monday because of a right ankle sprain he suffered while celebrating Josh Beckett's no-hitter a day earlier, according to the team's tweets.

Pedro Moura of the Orange County Register tweeted on Monday that Ellis said he landed on fellow catcher Drew Butera's discarded gear in the midst of the celebration.

The move to the DL is retroactive to May 25. In a corresponding move, the Dodgers recalled catcher Tim Federowicz from the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes. Ellis' injury comes just as he was returning from knee surgery.

Prior to the injury, the 33-year-old Ellis was hitting  .170/.350/.213 (65 OPS+). He has more walks (12) than strikeouts (10) on the season for a Dodgers team currently third in the NL West with a 27-24 record.
