The Washington Wizards and coach Randy Wittman are nearing a deal on a three-year contract extension, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

Wittman guided the Wizards to their first playoffs since 2008 and a first-round win over the Chicago Bulls, the team's first playoff series victory in nine years.

The Wizards hired Wittman as an assistant in 2009 and promoted him to head coach on an interim basis after dismissing Flip Saunders midway through the 2012 season.
