Oklahoma guard Isaiah Cousins was shot and wounded Tuesday in New York, but is expected to make a full recovery, reports The Journal News.

According to authorities, Cousins was shot in the back of the shoulder when an errant bullet hit him from one of two warring street gangs.

Oklahoma head coach Lon Kruger said that doctors are not planning surgery for Cousins.

Cousins, a Mount Vernon, N.Y. native, started every game for the Sooners last season. He averaged 11 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists for Oklahoma, who lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to North Dakota State.

"Everyone that we've spoken to said they don't believe anyone in his group was a target. He should be healed in a few weeks and begin summer activities with the rest of the team in June," Kruger said in a statement. "We're very thankful it wasn't worse than it was."
