Report: Diamondbacks OF A.J. Pollock to miss 6-8 weeks following hand surgery

Diamondbacks outfielder A.J. Pollock will undergo surgery to repair a fractured hand and is expected to miss six to eight weeks, manager Kirk Gibson said according to a tweet from Jack Magruder of FoxSportsArizona.com.

The 26-year-old was hit by a Johnny Cueto pitch in the eighth inning of Saturday 5-0 loss at home to the Cincinnati Reds. David Peralta will be added to the roster in his place.

Pollock has broken out this past two months; he's hitting .316 with a .366 on-base percentage and .554 slugging in 192 plate appearances. On Saturday following the game, he said it was frustrating but he's not going to overthink it, according to Nick Piecoro of AZCentral.com:

"It's frustrating. Unfortunately, it's part of baseball. People have injuries. With this one, there's not much else I can do. The guy ran one up and in and it hit me in the hand. I'm not going to really think twice about it."

Added Gibson:

"That's a big blow. He's been playing great. Emerging. He's been huge for us."
