Report: Astros sign prospect Jon Singleton to historic deal

The Houston Astros and minor league first baseman Jon Singleton have agreed to a five-year deal that is worth $10 million and could be worth $35 million if all incentives are met, reports Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan.
Singleton, who was selected in the eighth round by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2009 Draft, is thought to be the first player with no major league experience to sign such a deal, which includes three club options.
Singleton will make $9.5 million in salary; the contract includes a $500,000 buyout, according to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick.
Singleton, 22, hit 14 home runs with 48 RBIs through 54 games in Triple-A. He is expected to get promoted from Triple-A Oklahoma City before Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Angels and will take over as Houston's regular first baseman.
He has already failed two drug tests and was suspended for 50 games in 2013.

Once he stopped using marijuana, he told the AP, "I went through some slight anxiety, some depression because I wasn't being successful. That was definitely difficult and that drove me to drink." He admitted to "waking up hung over every morning."
