Cowboys open to DT Josh Brent returning to team after prison sentence

Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said the team is willing to consider reuniting with defensive tackle Josh Brent once he has completed his prison sentence, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.

Brent is currently serving a 180-day prison term after being found guilty of intoxication manslaughter. He was drunk behind the wheel when he crashed his car in 2012, resulting in the death of Cowboys teammate Jerry Brown who was riding in the passenger seat.

The Cowboys begin training camp shortly after Brent's scheduled release and continue to hold the 26-year old's rights, although Brent formally retired prior to his trial last year.

Jones said the NFL would have to weigh in before the team could move forward with any plans to bring Brent back.

"The league will have a big say in when he can come back, but we'll certainly evaluate that situation when it comes... Obviously they're looking at it and we'll kind of see how it goes. Obviously he sat out a year and the bigger thing is Josh has got to see where his priorities are. There's a lot of things that have got to be determined there."
