Knicks president Phil Jackson spoke on Wednesday with former player Derek Fisher about the head coaching vacancy in New York and the two will pick up the conversation next week, according to a report on Thursday night from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Fisher, who turns 40 this summer, wrapped up his 18th year in the NBA as a player last week when the Oklahoma City Thunder lost in six games to the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference finals. The five-time NBA champion will take the weekend with his family to think over the prospect of retiring as a player and moving on to coach the Knicks starting next season, according to the report. Wojnarowski said Fisher is "leaning strongly toward ending his playing career."

If his decision is in fact to call it a career as a player, he is expected to engage in "more substantive" talks with Jackson next week, according to the report.
