Yankees OF Carlos Beltran activated from DL

New York Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran was activated from the disabled list and will be in the lineup for Thursday afternoon's game against the Oakland Athletics.

The team designated infielder Scott Sizemore for assignment to make room for Beltran, who played in his third extended spring training game on Wednesday and went 1 for 5.

He will bat fifth in the lineup as the team's designated hitter. The Yankees have scored just 10 runs in their last five contests, losing four of those games.

Beltran is batting .234 with five homers and 15 RBIs in his first season with the Yankees.

"I think it'll be DH exclusively until a little bit later on," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "We'll just take this step by step. Our first goal was to get him back as a hitter."

Beltran has not played since May 12, after experiencing right elbow pain in a game against the New York Mets.
