Twins sign first-round draft pick Nick Gordon

The Gordon legacy lives on: The Minnesota Twins announced Monday that they signed first-round draft pick Nick Gordon, making him the third member of his family to play professional baseball.
Gordon, the fifth overall pick, who played shortstop in high school, signed for the slot value of $3.851 million, according to Baseball America correspondent Mike Berardino. Gordon's dad, Tom, pitched 21 seasons in the major leagues and was named an All-Star three times. Nick's brother, Dee, plays second base for the Dodgers and leads the National League in stolen bases.

The 18-year-old hit .494 with 10 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 27 RBI and 13 stolen bases over 99 plate appearances as a senior in high school in Florida. Last year, as a junior, he was the Gatorade Florida Baseball Player of the Year.
Gordon is expected to participate in the team's mini-camp in Fort Myers and then join the rookie ball Elizabethton Twins in the Appalachian League, which gets underway June 19.
