Far fetched as it may seem, NFL.com insider Ian Rapoport reported this week that a source close to Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch said the 28-year-old could be considering retirement, seven years after being taken No. 12 overall by the Bills in the 2007 draft.

As Rapoport pointed out, Lynch has saved his money and his "retirement thought is real," with the source saying, "I could see him walking away."

The news comes approximately a day after it was reported that the Seahawks don't expect their top running back at mandatory minicamp next week. One of the reasons for his likely absence is that he's reportedly upset with his current contract with the Seahawks;  he will make a base salary of $5 million this coming season and $5.5 million in 2015. If he skips next week, it would mark the first time in his career that Lynch has missed a mandatory team meeting or practice.

If he skips all three days of the camp next week, he would be fined $69,455, according to the new CBA.

Lynch finished Seattle’s Super Bowl season this year with 1,257 yards — his third consecutive 1,000-yard season and second highest season total. He also had a career-high 14 total touchdowns.
