Report: Vince Young says NFL retirement 'definitely official I think in my book'

NFL free agent quarterback Vince Young informally announced his retirement Saturday at his annual football camp in Texas, local station KXAN is reporting. 

The 31-year-old, a former standout with the Longhorns and No. 3 overall pick in the 2006 draft, said Saturday his retirement is "definitely official I think in my book" and he has already started moving on toward other endeavors. In April, it was reported that Young, who has been in some capacity a player on five NFL rosters, said he had a job with the Longhorns when his professional career is over.

From the report on Saturday:

“It’s definitely official I think in my book. Unless we get a great opportunity, something guaranteed … other than that I’ve started moving forward in some things. I love the NFL, will love the game always but I’m kind of moving forward and moving on right now.”

Young made his NFL debut in 2006 with the Titans and played four years in Tennessee before going on to a brief stint with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011, the last team for whom he appeared in a regular-season NFL game. He was a two-time Pro Bowler — once in 2006, when he was also named AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, and a second time in 2009. He played in the preseason for the Buffalo Bills in 2012 and Green Bay Packers in 2013 but was released before the regular season in both instances.

Most recently, Young, a two-time Rose Bowl MVP while at Texas, signed a one-year deal with the Browns this past May but was released less than two weeks later.
