Bayern Munich will have to look elsewhere for a defensive midfielder with the news that AC Milan star Gennaro Gattuso will remain with the Rossoneri.

The Bundesliga side had been strongly linked with the tenacious Milan midfielder, but the Italian World Cup winner has committed his future to the Serie A giants until 2011.

"We are still friends and I am going to stay at the club another three years and will also end my career here," he explained after a meeting with Milan vice president Adriano Galliani and trainer Carlo Ancelotti.

Gattuso joined the club in 1999 from Glasgow Rangers and has gone on to become a favorite with the home fans for his combative and never-say-die attitude.

However, the 57-capped Italian international will have to settle for playing in the UEFA Cup next season after the Rossoneri could only finish fourth this season.

With veterans Cafú and Serginho definitely leaving the club, the news that Gattuso will be remaining comes as a boost to Milan, which has also been buoyed by the news that Paulo Maldini will play on for another year.
