Brazil's most storied club, Santos, denied claims it could sign Argentine midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron and Ecuadorian winger Joffre Guerron after reports it was in negotiations with both players.

In declarations to Globoesporte on Friday, Santos stated that Veron wants to remain at Estudiantes de La Plata to participate in the 2009 Copa Libertadores, but the Brazilians will offer him a proposal in June.

Guerron, who belongs to Spain's Getafe, recently told the press he wants to part ways with the club. The speedy winger, who lifted the Copa Libertadores last summer with Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito, hasn't adapted well to Spanish soccer.

Apparently Santos hasn't been in direct negotiations with Guerron; instead the case has been looked at by the player's agent and a business association dedicated to player transfers.

Santos is after a high-profile signing, and although it is unlikely to be Veron or Guerron, it is keen on a foreigner, particularly one from Argentina. River Plate legend Ariel Ortega is a more realistic possibility.
