Onyewu may make Milan debut in Baltimore

AC Milan completed the signing of U.S. international center back Oguchi Onyewu this week on a free transfer from Belgian club Standard Liege.

Italian daily La Gazzetta dello Sport on Thursday reports the 27-year-old will fly to Italy's fashion capital at the start of next week to undergo a routine medical with the Rossoneri before finalizing his transfer.

Onyewu will be shown around the Milanello facilities and will get to know his new teammates, but will only stay in Italy for a couple of days before resuming his holidays.

The powerful central defender was in action with the U.S. national team until June 28, when the Yanks lost 3-2 to Brazil in the final of the Confederations Cup.

Therefore, he will be granted a few extra days of rest and will probably team up with the rest of the squad in Atlanta on July 21.

Milan will face Club America in the World Football Challenge the following day and Onyewu could make his debut against Chelsea on July 24 in Baltimore, or in the first derby of the season against Inter in Boston on July 26.
